Managing Images
Adding content for your pagesEach one of your pages will need one or multiple images, and possibly other files, and this is where the File Manager comes into play. NivoCart has a powerful image manager built-in. It comes in two variations: the full page version and the contextual version. They are both essentially identical in terms of features. They only differ by size and placement, as explained below:
The Full page File Manager:
The full page File Manager is found under "Tools/File Manager".
It is designed to be the main manager for all your images and content, organised in folders and sub-folders.
The full page format makes it easier to work with when a lot of importing and classifying is required.
The Contextual File Manager:
The contextual File Manager is found in all the pages that require one or more images (or other type of file).
It is hidden by default and only pops-up when an image file is needed in the forms being created or edited.
Being a pop-up, it is much smaller in size than the full page version, but has the same features.
File Managers Features:
First, here are the supported file types:
['jpg','jpeg','png','gif','mp3','mp4','oga','ogv','ogg','webm','m4a','m4v','wav','wma','wmv','zip','rar','pdf','swf','flv']
As you can see, most image, sound, archive, video and pdf files are included and accepted in NivoCart.
The non-image files will be represented by a standard type icon, while the images will be shown as thumbs.
Second, the standard functions:
From creating a new folder, or renaming, copying, moving, uploading and deleting files, all the classic functions are present.
Please note that manipulating files and folders can affect files that have already been attached to other pages, like products. It is therefore advised to organise your folders structure early and ideally stick with it, otherwise some updating will be needed in some of your other pages.
Third, the uploading function:
NivoCart's File Managers are using a multi-upload feature so you can upload multiple files in one go.
This is provided by a jQuery script called "PlupLoad" and is a very handy extension to have when working with many images in a session.
There is a file size limit defined under "Settings" in case you need to change it.
Finally, the caching:
All images are cached after resizing, in both the Administration side and the Catalog (store) side.
This feature greatly accelerate the loading times of images once the initial resizing operation as been completed.
The cached images will remain ready and available for 60 minutes and then expire, until they get requested again.
The Image Cache can be deleted at any time if needed.
